Independent Demonstrator, Stampin’ Up!®

Hi, Stampers!
Remember how I mentioned that Challenges have been inspiring me to create something?  A nice, clean and simple sketch by FMS343 Designer Jen Timko inspired this card. I've been so busy with blog issues this week that I wasn't going to enter, but I felt the need to make something not associated with my laptop. I just happened across a piece of SU! gold-accented acetate (sadly, retired), thought of the this week's Sketch and ta da!

I don't think it requires any instructions, really.  Just a tip:  Hide Mini Glue Dots behind the gold dots on the acetate and a couple where the Whisper White piece will cover them.  The WW is "quilted" with the Tufted Dynamic TIEF and popped up with Dimensionals.

I've entered another Challenge with The Paper Players.  Here is the sketch:
I have found that I am stamping more when I enter a Challenge, which means I have more to share with you!  Let's get started.

Whisper White Thick - 11 x 4-1/4, score at 5-1/2
Blackberry Bliss - 4-5/8 x 3-1/8 and 3-5/8 x 2
DSP - 4-1/2 x 3
Whisper White - 3-1/2 x 1-7/8, scrap at least 2-3/4 x 3

Basic Instructions
  • Ink wood "slice"? stamp in Blackberry Bliss, stamp off twice and onto WW scrap.
  • Stamp "... wonderful" greeting in Versamark on top and emboss with silver embossing powder.
  • Die cut embossed piece with third smallest oval Framelit (roughly 2-1/4 x 1-1/4).
  • Ink tall tree stamp in Blackberry Bliss and stamp off once then onto WW 3-1/2 x 1-7/8 piece, centering horizontally (as shown).  Stamp tree again, without reinking for tree in background and again, without reinking, for another background tree.  If you need to reink for last tree, do so and stamp off three times, first.
  • Adhere DSP and WW onto Blackberry Bliss mats.  Adhere DSP section to base a little off center horizontally.  Pop up narrow WW piece with trees on Dimensionals.
  • Add oval piece with Dimensionals (and a Glue Dot where ir overlaps the trees layer.
  • Add Silver Leaf Trinket where desired.

This card uses two techniques - reinkers on glossy card stock and embossing with Thinlits.  I've included a close-up so you can see the results of the embossing - double the use of your Thinlits!  I love the blues and green for the butterfly, but decided to add a pop of Melon Mambo - kind of retro, don't you think?   Let's get started.

Coastal Cabana - 11 x 4-1/4, score at 5-1/2
Melon Mambo - 5-1/4 x 4
Lemon Lime Twist - 5 x 3-3/4
Glossy - 2-3/4 x 4-1/4 - or scrap large enough to die-cut butterfly and small flower
Shimmery White (or plain) for greeting - 5/8 x 4

Basic Instructions
  • On a silicone oven mat or other surface that can take the water, add several drops of reinker to Glossy CS - no more than 3 colors to avoid muddiness, and two is fine.  I used Coastal Cabana, Pacific Point and Lemon Lime Twist.
  • Spritz with water until colors spread out or run together.  Lightly dab off excess water with paper towel or Simply Shammy and let air dry or use low setting on Heat Tool.
  • Die cut butterfly and small flower using Precision Plate - run through Big Shot at least twice; remove pieces with Die Brush and set both aside.
  • Using Embossing Mats, emboss Lemon Lime Twist with Springtime Impressions Thinlits.  Layer your sandwich as follows from the bottom up:  Platform, Clear Cutting Plate, Thinlit (cutting side up), card stock (you might want to secure your Thinlits to the card stock with a scrap of Washi Tape), Blue silicone Mat, and White plate on top.  Run through Big Shot at least twice.
  • Adhere card stock layers as shown with Multi "green" glue or Snail.  Position butterfly and adhere with Mini Glue Dots under body section.  Add whatever greeting* you like stamped on Shimmery White in Pacific Point and accent with die-cut flower.
*I used sentiments from Dragonfly Dreams
  • Add Glitter Enamel Dots on body and flower center and scatter a few more on card front, if desired.

I stared and stared at the background on the original version of this card on Pinterest (Vicki-Joyful Crafts) before I took a stab at recreating it. To me, it was an optical illusion.  My first guess was totally off base - pretty much a disaster.  My second guess was correct.  Here is the recipe.

Whisper White Thick - 4-1/4 x 11, score at 5-1/2
Pacific Point - 2 pieces - 4 x 5-1/4
Watercolor paper - 3-7/8 x 5-1/8
Shimmery White - enough to die cut as many sailboats as you want and label for greeting

Basic Instructions

  • Spritz Watercolor paper with water and sprinkle Brusho - mostly Prussian Blue with a little Yellow, until background is to your liking - spritz more water if you need to.  Let air dry or use low setting on heat tool.
  • With wavy Thinlit from Lakeside dies, horizontally center on dry Watercolor paper and cut several times. Be sure to leave a small border to hold it together.  Use Precision Plate and run through Big Shot several times, even turning 90 degrees once to be sure.
  • Adhere to one piece of Pacific Point CS along margins with liquid glue.
  • Using a Stampin' Trimmer, cut out a frame in second piece of Pacific Point CS, 3/8" on all sides and lay over Watercolor paper "water" and use liquid glue or strong tape or Tear & Tape.  Adhere all layers to WW Thick base.
  • Stamp sailboats in Memento on Shimmery White, color with markers and/or Stampin' Blends and die cut.  Stamp greeting on Shimmery White and die cut.
  • Add sailboats with Mini Glue Dots and pop up with Dimensionals. Add embellishments, if desired.
